Due to sheer number of patients who get this, there is increasing awareness about nonerosive reflux disease, newer methods of investigations like pH, manometry, impedance and non-medical treatments like endoscopy and surgery. It has become imperative to understand when to use what. These investigations also help us in understanding refractory GERD and to differentiate hypersensitive esophagus from actual refractory GERD. In the book editors have put things in right perspective in wonderful articles from experts from both India and USA. Another important issue is overuse, abuse of proton pump inhibitors and lot of noise around side effects of long-term use of this group of medicines, the facts from fiction in this issue are also taken care.
